- Our Facility -

Completed in 2013, the William Wilberforce is a purpose-built care facility of the highest standard, designed by award-winning chartered architect Brierley Groom to meet every possible requirement of residents.

Our home is historically inspired and set on the site of a former boarding house in the grounds of Pocklington School, once attended by the great philanthropist William Wilberforce himself. We chose traditional Yorkshire bricks for the sumptuous interior in a design that mixes modern, Victorian and traditional décor and pays respect to the site’s history and its Wolds location. Plush furniture and stylish interiors were devised and introduced to emphasise calm and peace, evoking the classy appearance and elegant calm of a highly starred hotel.

Bedrooms

Our residents enjoy waking up in stylish, modern-classical rooms that make the most of light and space while providing comfort, style and practicality. All our rooms have a full en-suite bathroom with a shower, individually controlled heating, WiFi, Sky TV, telephone and nurse call points.

Residents on the ground floor enjoy private patios overlooking our grounds and the surrounding countryside. Our rooms are elegant and homely, as befits the William Wilberforce.

Hotel Services

When we carried out our research into what people wanted in a care home, one word kept coming up: luxury.

For that reason, we have made it our mission to always offer more than the standard care home provides. Visitors have talked about us being like a hotel and there is no doubt that we do make sure residents can obtain all the services they would expect in such an establishment:

  • Unisex hairdressing salon, complete with beauty and nail bar for guests wishing to pamper themselves.
  • Room service available for all meals
  • Dry cleaning
  • Postal service
  • Newspaper delivery
  • Safety deposit boxes
  • Secretarial service
  • Business centre
  • WiFi in all areas
  • Sky Television available in every room
  • Option to personalise bedrooms

We provide the standards of service of the very best care homes while offering the elegance, luxury and desirable optional extras of the most respected hotels.

- Grounds -

Our careful eye for detail at the William Wilberforce is not limited to the inside of our building. Our beautifully landscaped gardens provide calm, enjoyable areas for residents. The crafted lawns and artfully created paths, flowerbeds and intimate seating areas offer an elegant, stimulating setting in which residents can sit, stroll and find peace at any time. From our seated terrace, they can view the gliders in the sky, read, chat with friends or simply enjoy some quiet moments.

We appreciate that our residents will want to do a variety of different things at different times. With this in mind, the William Wilberforce has a number of lounges, dining areas and meeting places so that everyone’s requirements can be met.

The William Wilberforce has two welcoming, cosy libraries that offer an inviting, calm retreat. Our coffee bar and bistro is light and airy, making it the perfect place to welcome and chat to visitors over a snack or a drink. Our lounges have televisions and the film lovers among us are regular visitors to the surround sound cinema, which regularly shows big screen favourites.
